The Playwright’s Room
Now, more than ever, provocative storytelling, and questioning the unknown is essential!
Brave storytelling depends on Writer’s being able to tell their stories in a safe, collaborative, and truthful space
Collaboration
Invited writers meet twice a month to build their full-length drafts in a collaborative, low-pressure space. Early sessions start with creative prompts from the Lab Team to spark new ideas and unexpected angles. As drafts take shape, writers share scenes in their given 50 minutes, and then we have a short group response.
Together, we celebrate breakthroughs, offer candid round-robin notes, and focus on strengthening structure, character arcs, and thematic clarity. At its core, the Play Lab is about community—writers supporting writers as each story grows into its fullest form.
Development
.Our ETC design team is committed to shaping a unified, dynamic environment where each play can shine individually while speaking to the larger whole. Every playwright will develop a full draft and share it in a public staged workshop—minimal tech, maximum focus on the script and performances.
Each writer will be paired with a director and cast selected specifically for the play’s aesthetic and voice. Working closely with the Artistic and Managing Directors, we’ll match playwrights with collaborators who can best support and elevate their vision.
The process not only nurtures each script’s development but also invites audiences to experience the creative evolution up close.
